Background
Norwich United Youth Football Club was founded in 2002. Initially the club had just one team at the U11 age group. These boys played in the North East Norfolk Youth League and in their first season finished runners up in the U11 Division 2.
The Mission for the Committee and parents during that first season was to promote youth football and maximise the opportunity for all children to be involved in development of there football skills and attain the highest standards possible. It was hoped that the club would become a local football centre for young people on the eastern fringes of Norwich.
The ‘home’ of the club is Plantation Park, Blofield.
In 2003 the teams involved at Youth level at the club was increased from 1 to 5 and included the U18 side, which had previously been administered under the senior club.
OrganiSUNion of the club and team affairs now became more complicated and it was agreed by the Committee that, in order to ensure compliance with all the league and FA requirements, the club would focus on provision of the requirements laid down by the English FA to achieve The FA Charter Standard.
This FA Charter Standard was achieved in 2004.
Youth Football is very popular at Norwich United and the Youth section of the club continues to grow. It is currently operating U18, U14, U13, U12, U11, two teams at U10, U9, two teams at U8 in the local leagues for the 2008/2009 season. There is also growing interest mini-soccer level and many young players attend our special fun training sessions on Saturdays the ages range upwards from 4 years old.
Soccer schools for our club members are frequently held in the school holidays, where the attendance is very high.
Early in 2006 we completed building a new mini soccer pitch, which will double as a training area for the youngsters.
Our coaches are furthering their education by attending FA approved courses and it is hoped that the club are currently able to show 16 FA qualified youth coaches on its books at the club, including 2 at Level 2.
