THORPE 6

Report

With Thorpe needing to win by at least 8 clear goals to snatch the title away from Old Catton, this was all set to be an interesting encounter. Thorpe started brightly and were quickly on the attack, scoring after 5 mins following a chip over the defence. Norwich were struggling to get to grips with the game and home keeper Tom Haskett had to make a string of fine saves to keep the opposition out. However, after 35 mins, a through ball found the Thorpe striker who buried his shot to make it 0-2. Just before half time, a cross from the right was headed home to make the score 0-3 at the interval. Norwich started the second half in better shape but Thorpe were still dominating. After 55 mins an attack down the left finished with a powerful low drive into the corner for the visitor's 4th goal. After another 15 mins, a cross from the right was finished in the top corner to make it 0-5. With 75 mins on the clock, Thorpe won a penalty which was dispatched well. Norwich hung on and were unlucky not to score with both goal keepers pulling off excellent saves. Thorpe deserved their win and must be congratulated on finishing 2nd in the league, but Norwich have performed well following their promotion into the A League and have developed well throughout the season. There were some strong performances for Norwich, but for an excellent defensive display in the 2nd half, the Man of the Match award went to Ryan Jermy. Thanks to Ian Ringer for running the line and to Kevin Love for stepping up to referee. Thank you also to the parents for providing the refreshments after the game.
